About one third or 5 km of the fantastic coastline between Split and Omiš is occupied by a pleasant settlement, the subject of our website, Podstrana. Thanks to the advantegous, protected location, the area had been already settled by ancient Illyrians and Romans - their traces are still many here. Besides the old village (Gornja Podstrana, situated on the hillside) Podstrana incorporates the former villages of Strožanac, Grljevac, Sveti Martin and Mutogras. Podstrana's neighbours are Stobreč (by Split) at the estuary of Žrnovica River on the western and Krilo-Jesenice on the eastern sides.

Vacation makers, visitors or even those passing by are attracted by beautiful beaches in Podstrana. Most of them have gravel on the coast (Strožanac, Le Meridien Lav, Sveti Martin, Sveti Martin Porat, Mutogras), however, at some locations one would find sand on the beach, like in Grljevac below Restaurant Jure and Pizzeria Mario. Concrete covered beaches, luckily, are not that many here.

Besides the luxurious Le Meridien Lav hotel guests are welcome to the smaller seaside hotels, as well. And, just like almost anywhere in Croatia, there is a rich choice of private villas and apartments available for rent. There are two camps in Podstrana, a small one (Tamaris) and a micro one (Car). All along the magistrala (main road) every village within Podstrana has its grocery, restaurants and bars. Should the guest not be impressed by the local options, Split, the largest city on Croatia's Adriatic coast is only 5-10 km away.

Well, all the above is meant to be a kind of introduction - details about Podstrana can be found on the inner pages of our site. You are invited to take a look around here!
